Project for the Creation
of the Cultural Artistic Centre

MIZAR

The project

This presentation illustrates the MIZAR project, that includes the creation of the MIZAR Cultural Centre in the city of Mar del Plata.

Music is goal and mean of many social-artistic projects all over the world, especially in South America. It is enough to mention the now international experience of the Venezuelan System of José Antonio Abreu, from which, this project, like many others, is inspired.

The MIZAR centre wants to integrate in these social-musical projects, gathering together the experiences made in other realities and combining the competences and the specific experiences of each of it’s founding members, gained in the years operating in different countries.

The purpose of this project is the creation of a high level artistic proposal, which is also a social-cultural space for the city, deeply democratic, popular and innovating in the means and methods.

The coexistence of different worlds, languages, people, objectives and cultures is the added value of this project, as an education centre and as an artistic one.

Project creators and managers

The project is designed and managed by the Argentinian clarinetist Gonzalo Borgognoni, the Swiss pianist Beatrice Lupi and the Italian pianist Francesco Paganini, three musicians with an extended experience and competence in educational and musical fields.

They have personally created, managed, supported or collaborated with some projects in South America including "Crecer en Música", "Martadero", "Fundación Sinfonica de Cochabamba" in Cochabamba (Bolivia), "Creciendo en Armonía" in Mar del Plata (Argentina).

Motivations

- The good results of the previous experiences have encouraged us to realize a project like the one described below

- The firm belief that in every social space there can be hidden talented individuals and potential to nurture, which would otherwise remain unexpressed

- The idea that the artistic and musical experience is a constructive alternative, on individual and social level, to the dispersion to which certain categories of people, especially young, are subjected

- The need to characterize this experience with a high artistic profile

Purpose

The proposal of the musical meeting centre MIZAR intends to pursue some general objectives.

The added value of this centre compared to a traditional cultural centre is given by a consistent imprint with practical proposals that it means to create, drawing a path that allows the natural interaction with other realities which pursue the same purposes, in the territory.

The cultural centre MIZAR intends to carry on a double activity:

- A space for instrumental, orchestral and chamber musical formation

- Centre of events: concerts, festivals, master classes, exhibitions and performances

The activities are transformed in organizing a calendar full of events, a multifaceted educational proposal, a structure that is as open as possible in order to offer a real meeting place.

Targets

The MIZAR centre intends to develop various activities and, considering the features of the context in which it means to operate, it is necessary to underline some global targets.

In first place, it is important to create a situation of accessibility to artistic activities mostly addressed to music, through the foundation of a musical centre in a different context from the federal capital's one, natural focus of cultural and artistic events.

The idea is to offer to a wide audience the possibility to participate actively to the country's cultural life, and also to represent another cultural attraction for places in which sometimes art moves in the background.

In fact, a centre with high quality projects creates movement of people, therefore interesting opportunities for knowledge exchange and personal and collective enrichment.

Accessibility means to choose to apply popular rates, so as to expand the users, eliminating the elitist aura too often associated with public art events.

Accessibility means also to create and integrate various cultural and pedagogical offers, obtained from different languages, which involve different cultures and periods, that are dedicated to a precise audience target in a focused and efficient way.

The ease to participate to artistic events, the opportunity of taking part not only as users but also as protagonists, the formation of attractive and various proposals, but always of high level, can create a kind of habit to art as social and cultural element intensely positive (and too often forgotten) and of cohesion for community, in every Country or context.

Equally important becomes the creation of a meeting place between people, cultures, languages, generations, artists.

Unfortunately we observe daily how diversity is reason of fear, suspicion, injustice and even violence.

Association and exchange have always pushed for renewal and enrichment, if realized in a context of equality, respect, justice. Music has, in its own very essence, a fundamental message of equality and globalism, because it values diversities without necessarily contrasting them, because its realization is based on cooperation and exchange, because it invites to listen and respect.

The project wants to emphasize furthermore the immediacy and strength of this message, on one hand, through a community pedagogical proposal, on the other, through the enhancement of different cultures and languages thanks to the creation of a network of artists who can take part and leave their contribution.

The orchestral activity, as well as chamber music, will be proposed because they have a structure that reflects deeply a model of society: this characteristic has created enormous and notable positive experiences in Latin America and throughout the world, such as the Arab-Israeli orchestra of Maestro Barenboim or the countless Orchestras of People present in many Countries.

Similarly, there will be attention to the school, whose contribution is essential and synergistic to the creation of a natural social consciousness, to be managed in enjoyable and alternative ways, but not less powerful and meaningful.

The idea of creating proposals for professionals and amateurs, young and old, is born directly from the provenience itself of the people who step forward to create and manage this centre. Coming from different Countries and continents, the habit of meeting different people and realties, point at the importance of this aspect, basic and essential in this project, as well as in everyone's life.

Another target is to promote young people, through interesting and high level education proposals, developing pedagogical projects of wide range and collaboration, creating an open place for everybody, where young people can come forward and cooperate, where they have the opportunity to perform, to offer their own competence and to obtain others, to know different artistic, social and cultural realities through external partnerships (in the territory but also international, in South America and Europe).

It is of fundamental importance to offer young people a space of enrichment, that can be stimulating to dream and discover the joy of building in first person a project for a better future, to desire to be protagonist not only of their own life, but also for the one of their own Country and the whole world, fighting comfort, boredom, homogenisation.

Finally it is very important to enhance the reality and context in which one is integrated, through collaboration with the existing cultural and educational associations, listening to possible needs, identifying common shared strategies.

This is why we want to realize different and engaging proposals for age group, so to listen and read concretely and directly requests, needs and the difficulties of the context, and be able to adapt and improve gradually the quality and type of proposals.

Project planning

Budget

The overall cost of the project is supported in a minimum part by events and personal contributions, while most of the incomes is to be searched among Institutions, Foundations, people, authorities or companies who take an interest in it.
The financing takes place in Switzerland through the MIZAR association, created ad hoc by the founders in order to support financially the project, especially at the beginning.

The project's budget (attached) is divided in two consecutive phases, respectively related to:

- Opening of the centre (rent, salaries, music instruments)

- Events with external artists

The coverage of the first phase allows the opening of the centre and covers the costs of a two years period, effective minimum date for rents in Argentina.
The budget is in dollars and considers the inflation's standards for what concerns rent, expenses and wages.

Registration fee to courses and events will provide additional coverage to a part of the budget.

We also underline the low cost that musical activity requires (except of course the initial investment for the opening of the centre), from which is possible to realize high quality activities that don’t need expensive materials or a high number of teachers.

This makes the existence of an artistic centre, created with a good initial investment, without the need of a too much expensive economic effort over time, possible.

Location

Regarding the location, different solutions were examined and several prospects were pinpointed depending on the project's financial timeline.

The pinpointed site is a private stable located in Playa Grande, Mar del Plata, which offers appropriate spaces for the realization of the project and for the expansion of the formative and cultural proposal.

The initial cost includes the deposit and the necessary structural adjustments in addition to the current rent.

Realization timeline

Realization is planned in two phases articulated on a period of at least two years.

The first phase involves the adaptation of the chosen places to receive the centre, the purchase of instruments and a minimum of stationery and administrational material, then the promotion and beginning of the courses. This phase sees involved the three proponents and founders of the centre.

The second stage is based on the continuation of the first, creating a calendar of events and meetings of different arts (music, dance theater, etc), seminars and master classes, to handle both on-site, in collaboration with other realities (choirs, orchestras, schools) both with guests (including foreigners).

In this second period it is expected the possible engagement of a fourth partner for the administrative and secretariat aspects, and/or other people in fixed term contract for the management of courses and the enrichment of the artistic proposals.

The project will begin in October 2015 and will be spread according with the local school calendar, so to better adapt to timelines, needs and current proposals.
